Commonly Asked Questions

  • Sessions generally go for 50- 60 minutes. If you feel this is too much time, we can accommodate sessions. It’s your space, feel free to use as much or as little of that time that you are comfortable with.

  • Firstly, we will go through some important information which will include providing basic information (DOB, contact details etc) and complete a consent form which outlines confidentiality, fees, session availability and limits to our service.

Once the administrative side is complete, we can talk about anything that has been on your mind. Usually in the first session we will ask a whole bunch of questions to begin to have an understanding of who you are, what difficulties you are currently experiencing, and what you are hoping to gain by engaging in therapy. It’s important to remember that these are your sessions, so we can talk about anything and there is no pressure to answer any questions you don’t feel comfortable discussing.

  • We accept card (EFTPOS, Visa, Mastercard) payments for sessions or Bank Deposit. We do not accept cash.

  • Everything that is discussed in session, remains in session. Psychologists are bound by ethical guidelines, (Australian Psychological Society, Code of Ethics), and this includes protecting your privacy.

However, there are some limits to confidentiality, which means that any psychologist will need to breach your privacy in situations where:

    • Your information is subpoenaed by a court of law; or

    • There are concerns about your immediate safety or the safety of others.

Wherever possible, we will do our best to ensure that you are notified before this occurs, however, this may not always be possible.

  • No, unfortunately, we do not complete psychological assessments.

  • The main difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist is that a psychiatrist has trained as a medical doctor and can prescribe medication.
Psychologists provide therapy and cannot prescribe medication.

  • No, a referral is not needed. You only need a referral if you are wanting to claim the Medicare rebate.

  • You can call usemail us or send an enquiry directly through the website.

  • Forensic psychologists specialise in providing psychological counselling to individuals who have had contact with the criminal justice system. Focusing on mental health and trauma associated with offending behaviour, and addiction.

Forensic Psychologists use a range of techniques and therapeutic approaches to provide psychological treatment of mental health conditions that range from mild to severe and complex.
